It's All Coming Together
I like to think I'm a modest member of society. That is unless I win three times in a row at Settlers of Catan. Then I can't help myself.
But with my portfolio coming together and as I put the finishing touches on my site on a Tuesday night at 11:32pm, I can't help but feel my cheeks glow and veins run with the kind of pride you only get to feel in elementary school. I finally did it. For the first time in my life, I've gotten far enough on my portfolio where I can taste the salt of the finish line. And for those of you who have known me long enough to count, you know this marks attempt trés.
This third time has to be the charm.
This site has been three weeks in the making. I decided on Squarespace over Format after much deliberation because of the optionality and flexibility to take my site beyond a simple portfolio in the future. Like selling prints for example. E-commerce is not an option on Format. Not to mention Squarespace has faster servers and bandwidth. Format takes forever to load.
I've gone with a minimalist but simultaneously ornate, graceful and classical look with Playfair as the dominant headline font and a more playful and approachable Karla for the text body. I want this site to exude not only simplicity, purity and focus but also class, a sense of history and place in time, as well as a familiarity you can only get with a reference to the past. Hopefully, it's working.
In the next few days, I'll be uploading all my pieces and work, as well as slotting in some pieces into the client section for some of my friends and family that are interested in printing some of these babies out.
I haven't been this excited in a while. It's going to be an awesome month.
